Watch Anime Music Videos

Anime music videos, or rather AMVs, to me are the spice of life to an already entertaining hobby. Throughout the years they’ve broadened my taste in both anime and music, and one of the funnest things to share with a friend or one of the easiest ways to get someone interested in an anime. I wonder how many people got interested in the anime “Princess Tutu” just because of this awesome AMV that portrays how good it actually can be?

Or Mushi-shi, a little known but gem among anime.

Or just make someone laugh.

Okay, enough spamming the post with AMVS. Trust me, I have over 30 GB of downloaded AMVs on my computer and have enough favorites to occupy hours of one’s life. Perhaps I’ll post some favorites from time to time, and yes I have made some of them in the past (shameless plug). So what is my point? To watch AMVs? Most anime fans are aware of Anime Music Videos already, at least they are impossible to avoid at most anime cons.

My gripe is watching them on Youtube. Yes they’re easy to find (plus convenient for blogs) and the quality HAS improved with their implementation of high quality videos. BUT I must encourage fans to look into AnimeMusicVideos.org – the ultimate AMV website. Nearly every AMV ever made is listed in its database by its creator, and 95% of them can be downloaded.

Reasons to sign up (yes you need to be a member to download and watch AMVS, but it’s free and takes seconds so no excuses).

  • The Ultimate AMV Community
  • Advanced search [search by title, music, anime, genre, keywords and more]
  • Want to create your own AMVS? They have the best resources and tutorials by the experts.
  • Find top quality videos! Browse popularity, top videos in any category and time span, as well as star ratings.
  • The user-made banners on top – because they’re hilarious or cool looking and change on every page. Yes this is less important but I still love them..
  • AMVs are uploaded by the one who created it! Unlike most cases on youtube, you’re not commenting to a stranger who uploaded a favorite video. You’re feedback goes directly to the source. Doesn’t that make you feel good inside?
  • Input and cool information about the AMV. See exactly what anime were used, which song and by what artist, any awards won, as well as detailed comments by the one who made it. What was their inspiration, is there any kind of back story? Sometimes they post the lyrics as well.
  • Opinions and Ratings – Give a detailed opinion, rate the AMV based on originality, video/audio quality, action synch, effects, lip synching, and more! Too lazy? Immediate after download or watching, you can give a star rating and a quick comment.
  • Preview and watch online! No excuse now. They recently made it so nearly all their AMVs can be previewed (or streamed live) by all its members.  Actually, this one new feature I discovered the other day is what spawned this post to begin with.

Things That Make Me Happy

I’ve seen people make lists like this and it seems like a good idea. Sometimes I think I think I complain too much when there’s so many things I appreciate about life and that makes me happy. Here are my lists. The profound and the silly.

  • Sleeping in…
  • Sunshine and cool weather
  • Time with friends
  • Watching a movie with my parents or friends
  • My futon which is usually more comfortable than my bed
  • My Room and sanctuary
  • My cat Luna who sleeps with me
  • Baby chicks and ducklings; why can’t they stay small and fuzzy?
  • Finishing a good anime or manga
  • Ferrets because they’re hilarious
  • Dogs because they’re loyal and always love you
  • My flying squirrels because they’ll hide in my shirt and I can take them to work with me
  • Reading a book in a hammock on a cool but sunny day
  • Finishing reading a good book; being morose and euphoric at once
  • Listening to the right song I didn’t know I was even in the mood for
  • Musicals, fun rock, oldies, and classical music
  • The fact I can listen to my Ipod at work
  • Did I mention cooler weather?
  • Oranges and citrus… even if they’re messy
  • Finishing a sketch or artwork I’m particularly happy with
  • Anything Christmas and I don’t care what time of the year it is
  • Twinkling Christmas lights… in my room year-round
  • Scented candles, as long as they don’t smell like baby powder or dessert
  • Singing hymns and praise music
  • Playing the piano, even if I’ve regressed since I was 16
  • Fairy tales and cartoons –  I don’t care how old I am
  • Singing to songs with my friends and being goofy
  • Blankets that are soft and cozy
  • Soft, cute, and cuddly stuffed animals
  • The fireplace and hot coco on a cold day
  • Going to anime cons with friends
  • Doing something out of the ordinary occasionally
  • Coffee in the morning. “Bring me Java Bring Me Joy”
  • Sunsets – as long as I don’t get in an accident because I’m gazing at the sky instead of the road.
  • The sound of rain outside of my bedroom
  • When I’m writing and feel inspired
  • Smiling at random strangers

To be continued…

Intro and Quiz Time

I’m a brown haired girl with violet contacts – glasses on occasion. I’m friendly and enjoy meeting new people (though friends usually have to drag me places to get me out of the house). I’ve been a devoted bookworm all my life and have become somewhat an anime geek as well. Somewhere over the years my interest in anime became a fascination and real love of Japan. I know just enough Japanese to pick out words here and there though I really would like to learn the language. I’m mature in many ways, childish in others. I love cute things. I hate being bored–my iPod, a sketchbook, and a book goes with me anywhere I go. I’ve recovered my childhood dream of being an artist professionally and have steadily been moving in that direction. I also enjoy writing, playing the piano, being on the computer, and just watching movies with friends.

You Act Like You Are 22 Years Old

You are a twenty-something at heart. You feel like an adult, and you’re optimistic about life.

You feel excited about what’s to come… love, work, and new experiences.

You’re still figuring out your place in the world and how you want your life to shape up.

The world is full of possibilities, and you can’t wait to explore many of them.

You Are a Cappuccino

You’re fun, outgoing, and you love to try anything new.

However, you tend to have strong opinions on what you like.

You are a total girly girly at heart – and prefer your coffee with good conversation.

You’re the type that seems complex to outsiders, but in reality, you are easy to please

Not sure if this one is as true but Cappuccino sounds good to me… mmh
